Compliance Manager | Prudential Financial | Newark, NJ

This Manager Level position will report to the Director in the unit and help to support three major functions. These functions include Lobbyist Registration and Reporting, Pay-to-Play Surveys and Reporting and Public Official Gift and Entertainment Coordination. Specific activities may include:

Coordination and administration functions:
  • Being familiar with legal requirements in jurisdictions where Prudential conducts activities that may constitute lobbying, both legislative and executive which includes procurement, and reporting of political contributions and imposing prohibitions
  • Research, under Law Department supervision, into lobbyist and pay-to-play requirements, which may include contacts with state and local commissions and authorities
  • Monitoring legal developments, analyzing their impact on Prudential activities, and communicating to affected businesses and functions
  • Monitoring business developments and individual activity with the assistance of relevant Business units in order to identify and track activities that may trigger lobbying laws, pay-to-play laws, and public official gift and entertainment laws
  • Coordinating with business and functional owners to ensure continued awareness of lobbyist registration, governmental dealings and pay-to-play requirements
  • Education and training of lobbyists, local Compliance and others who may have roles or responsibilities (e.g. Finance, Retirement, Risk)
  • Respond to questions and requests for assistance from businesses and functions
  • This position may play a central role in identifying business units that sponsor or organize events and ensuring that such events receive appropriate review and approval with respect to any public official Gift and Entertainment.

Conducting the filing process:
  • Follow up with lobbyists to obtain information about activity conducted
  • Analysis of responses, including whether activity is reportable and calculation of reportable compensation and expense information
  • Preparation and review of filings
  • Distribution to lobbyist signers for approval or signature
  • Filing reports
  • Responding to regulators' follow-up questions
  • Obtaining, maintaining and aggregating financial data for corporate annual filings
  • Maintaining required records

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to understand the regulatory environment and to work with regulators, conduct research and explain the requirements to lobbyists, local Compliance and others with impacted responsibilities including Business unit and corporate personnel.

  • College or advanced degree preferred
